FlexiCoat

DESCRIPTION:

AT-FLEXI COAT is 2-comp, easily applied; specially formulated cold polyurethane based waterproofing membrane. AT-FLEXI COAT is formulated for application to external surfaces of structural concrete, masonry and other substrates which requires waterproofing. It cures to form a resilient, monolithic, fully bonded elastomeric sheet.

STANDARDS:

Conforms to ASTM C 836 and for the use under ASTM C 898

USES:

  • AT-FLEXI COAT protects elevated decks, plazas and inverted roofs against water and water vapour penetration
  • For use as a seamless, impervious coating on roofs and concrete structures
  • It can be used, in general, as protective coating in infrastructure projects in civil engineering, on non-trafficked areas
  • It is easily applied. It has excellent adhesion to concrete, brickwork, corrugated GI Sheets, and Asbestos cement

ADVANTAGES:

  • FULLY BONDED — water cannot track beneath the membrane
  • ELASTOMERIC — accommodates minor structural movements and will bridge concrete shrinkage cracks
  • ASPHALT FREE FORMULATION — does not become brittle with age and remains flexible to -22ºF (-30ºC)
  • CHEMICAL CURE — 100% solids no loss of thickness, wet thickness equals dry thickness
  • SEAMLESS — continuous waterproofing integrity with easy detailing
  • PRIMERLESS — applied to the substrate with minimal surface preparation
  • DAMP SURFACE TOLERANT — can be applied over freshly set green concrete as soon as concrete is structurally sound
  • SOLVENT FREE — no volatile organic solvents
  • COLD APPLIED — eliminates open flame fire hazards during application
  • QUICK AND EASY APPLICATION — by airless spray or trowel
  • LOW TEMPERATURE APPLICATION — wide temperature application window, spray applied down to 20ºF (7ºC)
  • VERSATILE — easy to use at drains, pipe penetrations, inside and outside corners, etc.
  • ASTM C 836 — meets or exceeds all physical performance criteria

COVERAGE:

1.6 to 1.8 kg/m2 for 1.5 mm thickness per coat when applied by hard brush or notched trowel on vertical or horizontal surface. Coverage will vary with roughness & porosity of surface and ambient temperature.

MAJOR APPLICATION AREAS:

  • AT-FLEXI COAT is recommended for new and remedial waterproofing of elevated concrete decks including:
    • Concrete and masonry basements
    • Split slabs and wet rooms
    • Retaining walls
    • Parking/plaza decks
    • Podiums and terraces
    • Planters and green roofs

APPLICATION METHODOLOGY:

  • SUBSTRATE PREPARATION:
    • All dust, loose and friable materials and glaze or varnish of tiles must be completely removed by mechanical means. Existing coatings have to be inspected, cleaned and mechanically ground to achieve a sound, gripping substrate. In case of bad adhesion to the substrate, existing coatings have to be removed. In case of pitted surface, the same should be leveled by scratch using of AT-FLEXI COAT.
  • SUBSTRATE TREATMENT:
    • CEMENTITIOUS SUBSTRATES:
      • New concrete should be cured for at least 28 days and should have a Pull off strength = 1.5 N/mm2
      • Cementitious or mineral based substrates must be prepared mechanically using abrasive blast cleaning or scarifying equipment to remove cement laitance and to achieve an open textured surface.
      • Loose friable material and weak concrete must be completely removed and surface defects such as blowholes and voids must be fully exposed.
      • Repairs to the substrate, filling of joints, blowholes/voids and surface levelling must be carried out using appropriate products from ADO product range.
      • High spots must be removed by e.g. grinding.
      • Outgassing is a naturally occurring phenomenon of concrete that can produce pinholes in subsequently applied coatings. The concrete must be carefully assessed for moisture content, air entrapment, and surface finish prior to any coating work. Installing the membrane either when the concrete temperature is falling or stable can reduce outgassing. It is generally beneficial, therefore, to apply the embedment coat in the late afternoon or evening.
      • Prime the substrate and always use a reinforced system.
    • BRICK AND STONE:
      • Mortar joints must be sound and preferably flush pointed. Use localised reinforcement over joints and prime before applying AT-FLEXI COAT.
    • SLATES, TILES, etc.:
      • Ensure all slates/tiles are sound and securely fastened, replacing obviously broken or missing sections. Fully glazed tiles must be abraded prior to priming and subsequent treatment with AT-FLEXI COAT.
    • SUBSTRATE TREATMENT:
      • BITUMINOUS FELT:
        • Ensure that Bituminous felt is firmly adhered or mechanically fixed to the substrate. Bituminous felt should not contain any badly degraded areas. Prime and always use a totally reinforced system.
      • BITUMINOUS COATINGS:
        • Bituminous coatings should not have sticky or mobile surfaces, volatile mastic coatings, or old coal tar coatings. Prime and always use a totally reinforced system.
      • METALS:
        • Metals must be in sound condition. Abrade exposed surfaces to reveal bright metal. Use localised reinforcement over joints and fixings.
      • WOODEN SUBSTRATES:
        • Timber and timber based panel roof decks are to be in good condition, firmly adhered, or mechanically fixed.
      • PAINTS/COATINGS:
        • Ensure the existing material is sound and firmly adhered. Remove any oxidized layers and use localised reinforcement over joints.
      • SUBSTRATE PRIMING:
        • AT-FLEXI COAT (P) : 50-60 sqft per ltr (Comp. A : B = 10 : 1)
      • SUBSTRATE TEMPERATURE:
        • Minimum substrate temperature : +8°C (min. +3°C above the dew point)
        • Maximum substrate temperature : +40°C
      • AMBIENT TEMPERATURE:
        • Minimum ambient temperature : +8°C
        • Maximum ambient temperature : +40°C
      • SUBSTRATE HUMIDITY:
        • Can be applied on dry and damp surface
      • MIXING & POT LIFE:
        • AT-FLEXI COAT comes in premeasured packs.
        • Mix Component A mechanically for 2 minutes to break any settlement without introducing air in the material.
        • To this add Component B completely and mix for 3 minutes. Again ensure that no air is introduced due to mixing.
        • Note that the pot life of AT-FLEXI COAT is maximized by slow mixing, avoiding high sheer conditions. Once mixed, the pot life is typically 30 to 60 minutes.
      • APPLICATION:
        • Apply the mixed material by distemper brush, hard paint brush or by notched trowels.
        • Do not spoil the dry surface by walking on it for application.
        • Material should be applied within the workable time of AT-FLEXI COAT.
        • The membrane can typically accept light foot traffic in 24 to 48 hours.
        • Allow AT-FLEXI COAT waterproofing membrane to cure for at least 48 hours prior to placement of overburden; to avoid displacement of the membrane.
        • Use adequate care during the overburden placement operation to avoid movement of the protection board or damage to the waterproofing system.
      • CLEANING OF TOOLS:
        • Clean all tools and application equipment with water immediately after use
        • Hardened / cured material can only be removed mechanically
      • CURING:
        • Allow the applied membrane to cure for 2 days without any disturbance
